Common problems and solutions of chainsaw

30-6-2020

Everyone will encounter problems when using the chainsaw, and most of the problems that can arise can be easily solved.

Now, I don’t claim to be an expert when it comes to working, maintaining or repairing chainsaws. But I have some experience with chainsaws and I have encountered some situations/problems, which I think are very common for many users. Therefore, I think I will share some of the knowledge I have gained over the years.

First of all, I would like to say that just by doing some simple sawing, regular maintenance can avoid many problems. Such as cleaning the air filter, putting fresh gas into the saw, remember to add bar and chain oil when refueling, and run a file every time the chain is filled with one or two gasolines.

The problem of chain cutting method is usually related to sharpening quality. If the chain bends or is angled when bending, you are filing inconsistent pressure at a different angle or on one side. Throughout the chain, the angle of the top plate and the size of the cutter should be very consistent.

If your chain quickly becomes dull, it may be two things. Check your user manual to ensure that the chain you are using is the correct size. In addition, too much pressure may be applied when filing. This will cause the cutting edge to be too thin and dull.

If your rake or depth gauge is pressed too much or not enough, your chain will be cut too deep or almost cut off. Give yourself a depth gauge suitable for the saw and use it every time you grind the chain.

A saw that does not start or does not run smoothly may cause you to think that the carburetor is not enough, but it may just be an air filter that is ignored. If the filter is clogged, the ratio of air to gasoline in the carburetor will be turned off. This may cause scaling of the spark plug and clogging of the spark arrestor filter inside the muffler. Some of the best advice I got is that unless you really know what you are doing, please do not confuse it with a carburetor.

If the engine still does not start or does not operate normally after cleaning the air filter, clean the spark arrestor filter and spark plug. If this situation continues for a while, you may need to replace the spark plug.

Finally, sometimes your chain does not seem to get enough oil. When I first learned to use a chainsaw, I was taught to tune the engine slightly before cutting. If there is enough oil on the chain, a small amount of oil will fly out from the end when replacing the engine. In addition, if you do not need to completely replenish the saw with chain oil when filling up with gasoline, then your chain may not get enough oil.

The solution to this problem is very simple. After using the saw throughout the day, remove the chain and chain, and remove any debris that has accumulated around the oil injection mechanism. You can check whether the oil filling mechanism is thoroughly cleaned by running the saw without guide chains and chains and observing the presence of oil.

If you perform the prescribed regular maintenance and properly break in the chain, you can avoid the problems I describe here.
